Integration between Revit Structure and Autocad Structural Detailing for reinforcement drawings
I got a number of requests on how to use Autocad Structural Detailing (ASD) to produce reinforcement drawings from Revit Structure (RST)
Our vision is to have RST being BIM that contains the design information (in this case 3D reinforcement object) and have ASD to produce shop drawings based on local CAD standards
In this post I am going to explain the workflow between the 2 applications:
- Select a RST object and start the equivalent Revit Extension (REX). In my case I am using a column
- Define parameters manually or open an existing rebar cage template from the REX file menu
Press OK and the reinforcement is generated
- Select the Reinforcement Drawing REX from the icon or from the REX Browser list:
This is going to trigger AutoCAD Structural Detailing. After ASD is ready, you will get the following dialog box in RST:
You can use the default options or if you want to use regional options, please select New project:
Press the preference button and select the options that you want to use:
- Press OK to close the preference dialog box and OK to generate the shop drawings in ASD
- After the progress bar disappears,
use ALT TAB to switch to ASD
- ASD will ask you to position the drawings
ET Voila!!!
